Chandosレーベルから数々のイギリス音楽を世に紹介してきたスペシャリスト、アンドルー・デイヴィスが今度はマイケル・ティペットの代表作であるオラトリオ《われらが時代の子》をBBC交響楽団&合唱団とレコーディング!
ユダヤ人青年によるナチス外交官射殺事件とそれをきっかけに発生したユダヤ人迫害事件「水晶の夜」を題材として1939年から1942年にかけて作曲された《われらが時代の子》は、ティペット自身が「これは人類すべての受難曲なのです」と語ったメッセージ性溢れる作品で、ティペットの出世作であり代表作といえるでしょう。社会のあらゆる差別をテーマに悲劇と救済が描かれ、バッハの受難曲やヘンデルの「メサイア」にも通ずる構造を持っています。ここに収録されているのは2023年5月12日にロンドンのロイヤル・フェスティヴァル・ホールで行われたコンサートの翌日にクロイドンのフェアフィールド・ホールズにて同じメンバーでレコーディングされたもので、デイヴィス&BBC交響楽団、合唱団の盤石の演奏はもちろん、豪華なソリスト陣の歌唱も聴き逃せません。
