This is the Sonny Rollins recording that completely unhinged his long-time followers. Why? It's a live recording, and Sonny tends to stretch out more in a performance context, but rarely have his best improvisations been captured for posterity. The title tune in particular demonstrates why he is considered the greatest living tenor saxophonist. Taking a simple little melodic fragment, he runs it through a complex series of variations, full of emotional intensity and rhythmic vitality, quirky little quotes and humorous asides. His tone itself is cause for celebration, as is the incendiary interplay between Rollins and drummer "Smitty" Smith.
録音 : ステレオ (Live)
