近代イギリス音楽の父、パリーの世界初録音作品!

近代イギリス音楽の父ともいえるチャールズ・ヒューバート・パリー(1848-1918)の知られざる作品、《シェリーの「鎖を解かれたプロメテウス」からの情景》を世界初録音!パリーは王立音楽大学の学長を務めるなどイギリス音楽に大きく貢献した人物で、1902年のエドワード7世の戴冠式のために書かれた代表作「私は歓喜した(I was glad)」は、ジョージ5世、エリザベス2世、そして先日行われたチャールズ3世(彼はパリーのファンを公言しています)の戴冠式でも歌われました。彼の教え子にはレイフ・ヴォーン・ウィリアムズ、グスターヴ・ホルスト、フランク・ブリッジ、ジョン・アイアランドといったイギリスを代表する作曲家たちがいます。そのことからもパリーの音楽がイギリスにおいて重要な部分を占めていることが窺えます。

1880年にグロスターで開催されたスリー・クワイア・フェスティバルのために委嘱された《シェリーの「鎖を解かれたプロメテウス」からの情景》は、パリーの初期の作品で、彼がドイツ・ロマン派のメンデルスゾーンやシューマンに触発され、ブラームスやワーグナーから影響を受ける前の、個性的なサウンドがはっきりと現れています。初演後この作品はケンブリッジやオックスフォード、そしてロンドンで繰り返し演奏されましたが、その後忘れ去られてしまいました。そのような隠れた名曲をこのアルバムでは素晴らしい音質でお楽しみいただけます。
