LSOの底力発揮の大迫力シンフォニエッタ!!

ラトル&LSO最新盤は、LSOの本領発揮ともいえる迫力に満ちたヤナーチェクの『利口な女狐の物語』とシンフォニエッタ。『利口な女狐の物語』はラトルにとって特別な作品。「私がオペラ指揮者になろうと思ったきっかけの作品であり、今でも他のどの作品よりも簡単に涙が出てくる作品の一つ」と語ります。この録音は、ピーター・セラーズの演出によるセミ・ステージ形式上演のライヴですが、選び抜かれたキャストたち、そしてラトルの思い入れを十二分にくみ取って反応しているLSOの面々による見事な化学反応が炸裂している演奏となっております。ビストロウシュカにはイギリスで絶大な人気を誇るルーシー・クロウ、そして森番にはカナダ出身で英国で声楽を学んだジェラルド・フィンリー(ハイティンク指揮LSOの第九などでも共演)、そして森番の妻は、イサンゴ・アンサンブル(南アフリカ)で作・編曲家としても活躍するポーリン・マレファネと世界で活躍する多彩な歌手たちが集い、人生のめぐりあいやサイクルをセンチメンタルに描いた作品世界が見事に描かれています。そして「シンフォニエッタ」はLSOの底力が遺憾なく発揮された秀演。終楽章で冒頭のファンファーレが回帰し盛り上がっていく様は見事。それぞれの管楽器パートの力強さ、そしてLSOの持ち味であるブラスの絶妙なブレンド具合がこれ以上ないかたちで爆発しています。残念ながら2020年の同コンビの来日は中止となってしまいましたが、ラトルとLSOの抜群の信頼関係だからこそ実現可能なエネルギーに満ちた演奏を、ぜひご体験ください!

This recording of Janačeks The Cunning Little Vixen was recorded live in 2019 at a London Barbican production directed by the sexagenarian bad boy of British theater, Peter Sellars. The production included rather graphic video depictions of the action of Janačeks opera on a screen behind the performers, and listeners may well wonder whether the recording, abstracted from the video, will have its full impact. Certainly, there are challenges; for one, LSO Lives engineering staff has to contend with a character walking out into the audience as well as various other issues, but the good news is that this works perfectly well as an independent recording of The Cunning Little Vixen. Some of the credit goes to Sir Simon Rattle, who lends a real edge to the full-size version of the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as real grace to the Sinfonietta that fills out the second disc. However, it is the singers who make the show. They are led by soprano Lucy Crowe, a very effective vixen, lively and, in her love duet with Sophia Burgos Fox, down-to-earth and sexy. Rattle also keeps good control over a large London Symphony Chorus and gives it a sense of what it is singing. The whole thing is impressive for a production in which few performers spoke any Czech, although some may have been familiar with the action from Rattles previous English-language recording. In any event, this is grand, darkly lively fun.

サイモン・ラトルの広い指揮レパートリーで彼自身が最も自信と愛着があるのは何だろうか。マーラーか。ベートーヴェンか。シューマンか。ハイドンか。私は間違いなくヤナーチェクだと思っている。オペラ『利口な女狐の物語』はラトルにとって再録音。前回の録音は英語歌唱版だったが、満を持して原語版での録音。この作曲家ならではの細かなパッセージの音楽を積み上げて自然で詩的、ユーモアに溢れた音楽で、歌唱力溢れる歌手たちとのスリリングなやり取りが絶妙に融合し成果を上げている。ヤンソンスの後任としてバイエルン放送交響楽団の指揮者に決まったラトル。今後の活動にも期待を抱かせる名演だ。
