SACDハイブリッド盤。リコーダー界の鬼才ダン・ラウリンが現代作曲家キエル・マイエリンの超絶技巧作品に挑戦!2013年に完成したイーグル・リコーダーと弦楽のための協奏曲は、リコーダーの限界に挑戦したかのような難曲で、超絶技巧が随所に散りばめられている作品です。イーグル・リコーダーとは2008年に開発された楽器で、通常のリコーダーの音域に加えサクソフォンのキーと同じ機能がついており、リコーダーの温かい音色に加え、弦楽の音量にも負けないクリアで鋭い音色を奏でることができます。
第8曲「ロック・ザット・フルート」の名の通り、当作品はタテのりでガンガン攻めまくり、無窮動のパッセージが随所にあらわれます。弦楽との対話も刺激的で一度聴くと不思議な魅力にとりつかれます。マイエリングの作風らしく細かいパッセージが続き、さらには効果的な声も交えそれらの響きは非常に新鮮です。新感覚の協奏曲はオーディオ的にも注目の1枚と言えましょう。
演奏の1B1はビェルグステ1番地(Bjergsted 1)を本拠とするモダン楽器アンサンブルで、スタヴァンゲルが2008年の「ヨーロッパ文化の首都」に選ばれた際にスタヴァンゲル大学で教える音楽家とスタンヴァンゲル交響楽団のメンバーを加え創設された注目のアンサンブルです。
