故リチャード・ヒコックスより受け継いだ「英国音楽の伝道師」、そして「エルガー・メダル2014」を受賞した21世紀のエルガー指揮者、サー・アンドルー・デイヴィスのエルガー新録音!

オーケストラは、ネーメ・ヤルヴィやエドワード・ガードナーとの録音でも大活躍中であるノルウェーのベルゲン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団。アンドルー・デイヴィスとベルゲン・フィルの組み合わせは、ジェニファー・パイクがソリストを務め大ヒットとなった、シベリウスのヴァイオリン協奏曲(CHSA5134)以来の録音。
ベルゲン・フィル合唱団、そしてベルゲンの合唱団であるコレギウム・ムジクム合唱団、エドヴァルド・グリーグ合唱団という3つの合唱団とともに贈るのは、995年にノルウェー王となったオラフ(オーラヴ)1世の伝説(サガ)に基づく世俗カンタータ。
前作、エルガーの「ゲロンティアスの夢(CHSA5140)」は英BBCミュージック・マガジンで「Recording of the Month」に選ばれ、高評価を着実に積み上げているデイヴィスのエルガー新作。イギリス音楽ファン、エルガリアン要チェックです!
