Arranger: Milan Pilar. Crippled Dick Hot Wax's prolific crate diggers strike again, with another album resurrected from the archives. This particular recipient of the label's prestigious reissue series takes the form of acclaimed Munich trio Catch Up, whose eponymous debut album has remained a favorite of rare groove collectors since its original release in 1975. Led by pianist Max Gregor Junior, the trio split from Gregor's father's successful orchestra to tear up the German jazz scene in their own right. The arrangements of bassist Milan Pilar sparkle with life, while percussionist Charly Antolini takes center stage in "Lydia," shining in the dazzlingly militaristic rolls of an epic solo interspersed only with spooky strings. The licensing of tracks from the album to Compost's respected Glucklich series and Gilles Peterson's Talkin' Jazz album will no doubt act as further endorsement for those inclined. ~ Kingsley Marshall
