English amateur medical enthusiasts Carcass are considered to be one of the most innovative and genre-expanding bands in both death metal and grindcore. Their second album, SYMPHONIES OF SICKNESS, was a cooling off of the hellish molten core that their first album created. In place of furnace blasts, the songs on SYMPHONIES stretch out--at times at or around five minutes--playing with song structure and lyrical clarity. Jeff Walker's anatomical textbook grunts are more intelligible this time around, and songs like "Empathological Necroticism" embrace grind's intensity and death metal's complexity in equal measure.|
