The NBA at 50: Musical Celebration is an odd selection of soul and urban R&B songs that don't necessarily have anthing to do with basketball -- they just happen to have been recorded during the last 25 years of the NBA's 50-year existence. As a urban R&B collection, it's actually fairly good, featuring classics by Marvin Gaye, Kurtis Blow, Kool & the Gang, Naughty by Nature, and Bobby Womack, plus new items by SWV, Take 6, Zhane, Vanessa Williams, Brian McKnight, and Crystal Waters. The newer songs tend to pale next to the more familiar material, but the album is generally entertaining, even if it is a bit long. ~ Leo Stanley|
