Adeba breaks no new ground although Monique Seka has enlisted the help of vocalists Marie-Celine Chrone, Tony Chasseur and Tatiana Miath from the French Antilles. Bago, notable percussionist from Martinique, is also on the album playing djembe. The album pales after the strength of Okaman. Gone are the silky synthesizers of Manu Lima whose tweaks defined the sound of that album and made it such a huge success. "Baya Somibo" kicks in with some solid soukous. "Anou" lays down a different rhythm and is a welcome change from the afro-zouk that sounds cloned. "Bera" (Rare Bird) shows a little more life with a merengue-like zouk feel to it. The ballads are forgettable except for the quality of Seka's voice. A weak follow-up to Okaman. With a voice like this and the caliber of the musicians, the album should have had more punch. ~ Mark Romano
