Despite getting conveniently saddled with the emo tag, MovieLife immediately dispels any ideas of mealy-mouthed, sensitive teens wielding guitars, thanks to the double-axe attack of Brandon Reilly and Dan Navetta on the opening song "Face of Kneecaps." Keeping to the short-and-fast credo of true punk, the 11-song FORTY HOUR TRAIN BACK TO PENN clocks in at around the 35-minute mark and is packed with plenty of real-life inspiration.
Everything from a van crash suffered on a recent tour ("Jamestown") to the usual tales of romantic woe and couples destined to break up over irreconcilable views ("Keep Never Changing") serves as subject matter for this Long Island quintet. If the masterful use of sing-along choruses and churning riffs isn't enough, Drive-Thru Records included a bonus CD on initial pressings of FORTY HOUR TRAIN. Also included is a previously unreleased acoustic Movie Life song "Sailor Tattoos" along with cuts by several label mates.
