Harmonies are the strongest ingredient on this full-length debut from Call and Response. But it's the unexpected bounce of its keyboard sounds that makes the record so cheerful and kaleidoscopic. Much of that blissfulness is rooted in '60s folk-pop, in particular "Colors," which has an uncanny resemblance to "Mr. Tambourine Man." Listen a little deeper, however, and you'll hear some country in "California Floating in Space," electro-pop in "Colors," and funk in "Lightbulb." Occasionally the quintet overindulges with its harmonies, but the lighthearted lyrics and pleasant melodies are so enjoyable that it's never really an issue. ~ Kenyon Hopkin|
