This Collectables two-fer packages two of Sergio Franchi's best LPs from the mid-'60s: 1964's The Exciting Voice of Sergio Franchi with 1965's Live at the Cocoanut Groove. He of the powerful, majestic Italian tenor certainly wasn't a '60s-style swinger to match Frank Sinatra or even Dean Martin, but Franchi was among the best then practicing the old-world style of classic songs given overwhelming performances. Neither of the two LPs here are studio dates; The Exciting Voice was recorded at Webster Hall, but apparently in a closed session, while Live at the Cocoanut Groove ostensibly recorded for posterity the Franchi floor show at Los Angeles' most opulent club of the '60s. ~ John Bush
