Chris Mackintosh takes his place among Todd Terry, Pete Tong, and Boy George in the luminescent ranks of the "Trusted DJs" who deal in house music. The prevalent remixer preempts a long-promised and even longer overdue artist album by laying down a vocal-flecked selection of uplifting pieces that echo the atmosphere of his City Loud residency at legendary London club Turnmills. As would be expected from the occasional U.K. DMC champion with an 18-year dance music pedigree under his belt, the 60-minute selection is impeccably mixed and well thought through, setting the stage for the larger pieces through rousing instrumentals, the slick transition from the dub version of Word of Mouth's "Reach Out" through to the crowd-pleasing power soul of "Sweet Magic." It's a rip-roaring selection, all loved-up on lashings of harps, big strings, and an unrelenting thump of kick drum, which almost inevitably closes with Jocelyn Brown's cover of "Suspicious Minds," produced, of course, by C.J. himself.
