he third album from the accomplished DJ and presenter of the acclaimed radio show Worldwide drifts even further into left field, with an unexpected opening far from the nu-jazz leanings of preceding volumes in its utilization of the folk flecked Tin Hat Trio -- all strumming guitar, drifting squeezebox and gift-wrapped woodwind. While the 2002 compilation ubiquity "Manila" from Seelenluft gets an airing, there are plenty of less familiar treasures on offer. Madlib's hard-to-find cover version of Stevie Wonder's "Too High" is a downtempo treat, and provides the perfect platform from which vocal cuts from Pevan Everett, Shaun Escoffery and the superb J Live offering "A Charmed Life" rise -- further buckling a wonderfully far from centre selection. A second visit to the Stones Throw label completes this enjoyable collection. ~ Kingsley Marshall|
