While Tammy Cochran's 2001 debut album rocketed her into the upper echelon of contemporary country stars, she's no Janie-come-lately; she'd been polishing her craft for years before she landed her record deal. And unlike many country-pop singers whose careers and songs are all crafted to order for them, Cochran started out in the business as a songwriter for other artists. All that work and apprenticeship served her in good stead, as LIFE HAPPENED is populated not only by the work of Nashville writers-for-hire, but by tunes from Cochran's own pen. Not that there's much cause to complain about songs by the likes of ex-NRBQ guitarist Al Anderson, but Cochran's own mournful, bittersweet slow-burner "I Used to be That Woman" and the dark, moody domestic violence account "Dead of the Night" are undeniable highlights here.
