This three-CD compendium from the ill-fated yet highly influential NYC Punk Rock group features material that was recorded for the Chrysalis Records label towards the end of their career in the late 1980s and early 90's.This period finds "Da Brudders" now without original bass player and chief songwriter, the troubled Dee Dee Ramone. Although it is generally acknowledged that the group did their best work in the 70's and 80's for Sire Records, this set is not without highlights, including "I Believe in Miracles" and "Strength to Endure," as well as selections from their album of cover songs written by other artists, and live recordings of their own songs from all stages of their turbulent career. This box set includes the Ramones' last four studio releases (Brain Drain, Acid Eaters, Mondo Bizarro, and !Adios Amigos!, as well as the live recording Loco Live. While longtime fans will always argue the merit of these post-heyday sessions, there are enough quality singles like "Pet Cemetery," "I Believe in Miracles," "Bonzo Goes to Bitberg," and "Chinese Rocks" to make this worth investigating. An 18-track, single-disc version called Best of the Chrysalis Years was also released. ~ James Christopher Monger
