Hot off the heels of his remarkable collaboration with rap artist Doseone, Cincinnati-bred DJ/producer Bryan Hollon (aka Boom Bip) released SEED TO SUN, his 2002 solo debut for Lex Records. A mostly instrumental affair, the album trades hip-hop's traditional rhythmic DNA for a broader palette of twitchy digital beats and splashy organic sounds. From the thrum of acoustic jazz samples, to the patchwork haze of analog electronics and glitch-ridden digitalia, SEED TO SUN revels in the multiple possibilities of computer-aided production, taking it out of the hoary old climes of underground hip-hop and into the bleeding edge of experimental electronica.
