It's hard to know what to make of an act like Good Clean Fun. Are they a joke band? Are they legitimate? Are they hard-line straightedgers or is hardcore all one big joke to them? With song titles such as "Coll-Edge," "Last Night I Dreamt an Emo Kid Loved Me," and "Vegan Revolution Draft Dodger Anthem," it's obvious the band has a sense of humor, but filling a CD with more than 25 songs of clichéd old-school hardcore, it's a wonder who would want to listen to this more than just once. The sense of humor can make the album's message unclear, as a good number of their songs are about staying positive and yet many of the other tunes have a quite un-positive message: ripping on kids who sell out from straightedge, telling Victory Records that they suck, putting down non-vegans, and so on. Is it all part of the shtick? Who knows? If it's all legitimate, they seem to be contradicting themselves. If it's all a joke, it's one that many may not understand. Regardless, the fact is that the music is hackneyed and redundant old-school hardcore that even questionable attempts at humor can't improve. ~ Kurt Morris|
