Undoubtedly one of the genuine wonders of the modern world, James Brown has been making superlative, irresistibly groovy music since the late '50s. This 1991 release proves that Brown shows no signs of slowing. While hearing the Godfather amidst keyboards, studio effects, fancy band arrangements, and slick production takes some getting used to, there is no mistaking his trademark soulful howl as it pours through these eight tracks.
"(So Tired Of Standing Still We Got To) Move On" gets things moving toward the dance floor, with Brown lending energetic vocal punch as only he can. While "Dance, Dance, Dance To The Funk" continues in the same vein, Brown revisits the style of his early '60s R&B ballad material on such tunes as "Teardrops On Your Letter" and "You Are My Everything". An interesting mixture of the old and the new, LOVE OVER-DUE shows that Mr. Please Please can still mix it up as both a crooner on bent knee and as a peerless master of jams.|
