Although the premise of this family flick revolves around a young bear trying to reunite a legendary rock band to play a benefit to rescue a legendary concert hall, the truth is this live-action movie is based on the original amusement park attraction Country Bear Jamboree. For the music-heavy plot, the filmmakers handed the keys to the soundtrack over to respected singer-songwriter John Hiatt. Far from treating "Disney's The Country Bears" as a mere paycheck for services rendered, Hiatt instead delivers some of his finest material. He delivers an emotive "Let It Ride," burns up ears with the sizzling "Nobody Knows My Name," and also wrote songs for pop divettes Jennifer Paige ("Kick It Into Gear") and Krystal Marie Harris ("The Kid In You"). Also included is a live all-star jam on the Jackson Browne-like "Straight To The Heart Of Love" featuring Hiatt, Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Men At Work's Colin Hay (!), and voice-over vet E.G. Dailey. The few non-Hiatt cuts also fit in well and include the Bela Fleck instrumental twang-fest ("Bear Mountain Hop") and Brian Setzer teaming with NewsRadio's Stephen Root on the rockabilly workout "I'm Only In It For The Honey."
