Priority's Big Pimpin isn't the first hip-hop compilation to be released under that name -- Flip tha Switch was behind the one from 2001 -- but it may be the best. Granted, it doesn't exactly come with an endorsement from N.O.W. ("Bitch has more ass than brains," "Bitch, I pimp your mama," etc.), but the title alone should make that clear. Many of the more popular self-proclaimed "pimps" of the rap world are present and accounted for: Too $hort (represented on four tracks), Ice-T (two tracks, including the previously unreleased "Pimp or Die"), and Snoop Dogg (three tracks, including the previously unreleased "Back Up Ho"). Altogether, there are five previously unreleased tracks and at least one certifiable classic, Big Daddy Kane's "Pimpin' Ain't Easy." The strongest track just happens to be the first -- also an unreleased one -- Ant Banks' T.W.D.Y. featuring Captain Save'm's laid-back "Super Pimpin'" with its slinky gangster-lean chorus. Fans of Jay-Z are sure to notice that Big Pimpin doesn't include his hit single of the same name, but that may be because the focus is more on "the game" as it's played on the West Coast (and in the South) rather than the East. ~ Kathleen C. Fennessy
