Jello a.k.a Bola, Bolaman, Darryl Fitton. His birth name is Daryl Fitton, but he must not like it, because Jello is his is second "nom de musique," the first one being Bola. This 2002 set features 11 dance-travaganzas including "Shinoque," "Pequill," "Neph," and "Conokut." Sharply clever for a deep-mood LP of didactic techno, Jello's Volle returns to Bristolian trip-hop with the intention to slip in the personality of a university mathematics professor. Stoned grooves are passed over for alarm-clock electronic music, the outcome of which is a lucid offshoot of Autechre IDM and an artificial but somewhat menacing take on intentionally fictional soundtracks and antisocial hip-hop. Many songs float across, like Future Sound of London's "We Have Explosive," in slow-motion ("Lungbone," "Vamillaglade"). Others, suggestively, like the overcast charm of Iceland's Mum ("O'verb").
