Once again Sweden is the source of fluffy bubble-gum pop, this time in the shape of the four teens that make up Play. Like fellow Swedes A*Teens, these four gals deal in the kind of frothy ear candy that sticks in your head the way caramel clings to teeth. With Beyonce Knowles's dad Mathew co-managing the group and overseeing a coterie of studio helpers including producers like hit-maker Ric Wake, the Play girls make like musical chefs on this fluffy cake of hooks and harmonies. Already denting the charts with a bubbly cover of the Jackson 5 nugget "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," (aided by Chris Trousdale of fellow teen icons Dream Street), Play packs the rest of their seven-track EP with enough potential hits to keep them going for a long time. Among the other cuts with chart potential are the female-empowerment anthem "Cinderella," the Destiny's Child-flavored "I Don't Get Down Like That," and a percolating interpretation of Olivia Newtown-John's late-1970s smash "Hopelessly Devoted" packed with bleeps and sinewy beats.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
