In an alternate dimension, it's possible that David Grubbs could have been another, more focused Syd Barrett, such is the sense of experimentation and loose playfulness on offer here. Grubbs and his co-conspirators, who include the keyboardist Matmos as well as Grubbs's old bandmate John McEntire, construct a set of impressionistic pieces that includes the gentle, semi-psychedelic "A Dream to Help Me Sleep", the spare, meditative "I Did No Such Roaming", and the brooding, ambient "Crevasse", all of which add up to a lively display of some extraordinarily sympathetic talents.|
