Like its sibling release, Maximum Dance 12", Maximum Disco 12" compiles a number of dance songs that appear in their extended formats. Since most disco compilations attempt to cram as many tracks as possible onto one disc, they often favor the inferior radio edits that usually sacrifice one of the main purposes of dance songs -- the best disco songs aren't made to be in and out in three minutes, like a pop single; they're made to work on a dancefloor, where extended grooves are a necessity. In that respect, this is a welcomed compilation, with Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell," George McRae's "Rock Your Baby," the Whispers' "And the Beat Goes On," and Tavares' "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" each clocking in at over six minutes. ~ Andy Kellman|
