If you are looking for a rock-solid collection of superfly '70s funk and soul, you could do a lot worse for yourself than picking up Superbad!: The Soul of the City. So many of the big hits are here: Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft," War's "Low Rider," James Brown's "The Big Payback," and the O'Jays' "Back Stabbers." Plus there are a couple of less well-known artists who contribute great songs: Joe Simon with "Theme From Cleopatra Jones" and William DeVaughn with "Be Thankful for What You Got." Listeners are most definitely in for a funky good time when they slide this into their CD player. A complaint one might have is that there is not a single female artist in sight. Here are a few names: Betty Wright, Lyn Collins, Laura Lee, and Aretha Franklin. It seems a crime not to have included at least one of these funky females. Another complaint would be that instead of having two tracks by James Brown and two by the Temptations, the compilers could have found a spot for another worthy funk artist -- like Lyn Collins, for example. Still, if you want some funk this is a good place to start. Just make sure you get some Betty Wright too. ~ Tim Sendra
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
