After years working in the music industry behind the scenes, as a writer, engineer, even running her own label, Detroit native Davina finally decided to do it herself. Her insistence on this level of control may have thrown a stumbling block or two in her way (she already went through one major-label deal over the subject), but it's also given her the strength and flexibility to make a statement like BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. Produced and primarily performed by Davina, the album has a unique voice, and lets Davina's many talents shine.
Davina's mastery of sound manipulation is evident from the get-go, as shimmering jazz and string samples weave in and out of "Come Over To My Place". With a voice that's at once smoky and smooth, Davina presents a series of deep love jams, from the velvety, multi-tracked harmonies of "When It Rains" to the cool groove of "Getz No Where". In the only non-original, Davina takes on Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It" (originally penned for Michael Jackson's OFF THE WALL), updating the tune's bright feel with her own individual, modern style.|
