For this CD reissue, the popular Firehouse Five Plus Two travels the world through such songs as "Japanese Sandman," "Panama," "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," "It Happened In Monterey" and even "Lady of Spain." As was often the case with their records, the song titles are more exotic than the music, which is essentially straightforward Dixieland with a healthy dose of good humor. The strong frontline (comprised of trumpeter Danny Alguire, trombonist Ward Kimball and soprano saxophonist George Probert) and the driving rhythm section resulted in the group forming its own identifiable sound. All of the FFPT recordings are easily recommended to Dixieland fans. ~ Scott Yanow
