Photographer: Scott Johnston. Arranger: Grandmaster Gareth. Pram has created something of a post-rock gem with THE MOVING FRONTIER. On this 2008 release, the band edges out of conventional pop-rock territory to embrace the atmospheric and experimental currents that have been part of its aesthetic since efforts like 1995's HELIUM. Evocative and unsettling at once, the 14 tracks on this disc could easily serve as a soundtrack to an art-house film. As usual, Pram draws from lounge, early electronica, and spooky, shadow-casting noir, but THE MOVING FRONTIER also serves up dollops of Ennio Morricone-esque themes among the strings and Latin-flavored beats. Of course, Rosie Cuckston's otherworldly voice still floats on top of many of the tracks, adding additional flavors to the already variegated, gorgeous, collage-like experience.
