Benoit Burello, alias Bed, cools it down for everyone. Everything becomes so quiet when listening to this album. And if there were some electric guitars in his early tapes, you'll hear none on The Newton Plum. Some instrumental tracks are included ("Tangle One," "Underseas," and "Ironic"), but you will find some sparse vocals on the other songs; they will always be muffled, of course. A piano is leading all the compositions, and strings or a bugle appear here and there, always restrained, too. Another band refers in the title of one of their albums to the infinite sadness. It also would have fit right for Bed's first LP. It, indeed, sometimes flirts with despair. So, be sure to choose the right place and the right mood to listen to The Newton Plum if you do not want to spoil everything. ~ Romain Guillou|
