The one-time leader of Level 42, bassist/vocalist Mark King, chose to pursue a solo career after the U.K. funk-pop band broke up in 1994, issuing such releases as 1999's One Man on his own. On the aforementioned album's subsequent tour, King assembled a fine backing band, comprised of members Nathan King (guitar, vocals), Lyndon Connah (keyboards, vocals), and Gary Husband (drums), which was showcased on the 2002 DVD release Live in Concert. The concert was recorded live on June 15, 1999, for the German music TV program Ohne Filter: Musik Pur, with King and his cohorts delivering 12 flawlessly executed tracks over the course of an hour. Standouts include the up-tempo opener, "Hot Water," such back-to-back slow compositions as "Love Wars" and "Bitter Moon," and the King slap-bass showcases "Love Games" and "Mr. Pink," as well as a fine rendition of Level 42's biggest hit, "Something About You." ~ Greg Prato|
