Veteran Hispanic rapper Frost is more old-school than most, and it shows in both beats and production on STILL UP IN THIS $#*+!, his fourth full-length album. The beats are smooth, and Frost's rapping style is deceptively low-key throughout. Though his material still covers the usual subjects, he does it in such style that you're completely taken in by his sincerity. Tracks such as "I'm Still Here" delve into smooth R&B territory, while "Everybody Knows" is a warning to more immature rappers, some of whom he's helped on their way up, not to get too big for their britches. Frost's maturity lends his raps an air of authority that's uncommon nowadays--most rappers of his vintage have either gone into acting, production, jail, or the boneyard--and it's a treat to hear old-school production values get a well deserved airing once again.
