Behind the icy waters and pseudo dawn-of-hi-fidelity artwork there is a burgeoning array of relaxed hip-hop, breakbeats and looping samples. Previously known for mixing Statik Sound System, Aim's own debut album is a near cousin of the superior DJ Shadow and his co-project Unkle. They share the same technique of multi-layering wide ranging sounds and vocal samples with breaks and scratches.
Aim's guest vocalists include the rappers AG, Q-Ball and Curt Cazal. YZ's contribution to "Ain't Got Time To Waste" is reminiscent of the Fun Loving Criminals. A plaintive, soulful contribution comes from vocalist Kate Rogers on the beautiful "Sail" while "Demonique" is simply frightening. With a scary Omen-style choral loop and the ensuing narrative dialogue about an escaped criminal this is reminiscent of "Aisha" by Death In Vegas. By contrast "A Tree, A Rock And A Cloud" is a chilled smoochy groove. After the opening nocturnal rainforest, "Journey To The End Of The Night" is taken over by breakbeats and ultimately topped by a perfectly wonderful, jazzy horn solo. This album is a cool, groovy, down-tempo and eclectic classic.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
