Documents Soundgarden's sold out homecoming concerts, staged at Seattle's Paramount Theatre on March 5-6, 1992. Also includes interview footage.
Recorded over two nights at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, WA, on March 5 and 6, 1992, Soundgarden's second home video, Motorvision, catches the band just as they were about to break through to the big time. Since they had spent the preceding few months opening up for Guns N' Roses in huge arenas, a hometown show in a theater must have been a welcomed return, and the band rips through the best tracks of its then-current release, Badmotorfinger. Chris Cornell shows why he is considered to be one of rock's top singers throughout (his voice is just as strong in a live setting), as the group thrashes through such heavy rockers as the sledgehammer opener "Searching With My Good Eye Closed," their breakthrough hit "Outshined," and the breakneck "Rusty Cage." The only older song that's included is the obscurity "Little Joe" (the version here is even better than the original), while the meditative "Mind Riot" is the only low-key song among the rest of the heavy selections. Hold onto your hats while viewing the cacophonous "Jesus Christ Pose" and the exploratory closer, "Slaves & Bulldozers" (in which Cornell quotes a few lines of Pearl Jam's "Alive"); both performances are exceptional. Motorvision is an excellent sample of Soundgarden in concert. ~ Greg Prato
