Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols Are Outrageous and Outspoken is the full title of this disc, which presents an interview with Rotten and Vicious conducted by a somewhat sympathetic female interviewer. Since the three begin by discussing the Sex Pistols' sole studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, the interview seems to have taken place in the fall of 1977, around the time of the album's release and only a couple of months before the group's demise. Rotten is typically articulate, honest, and sarcastic, managing to admit that he is not fond of the song choices on the album, for example, while Vicious is typically inarticulate, coming in now and then to make blanket condemnations. "Who do you really hate, Sid?" asks the interviewer, egging him on, and he replies, naturally, "Everyone." Later, he acknowledges, "I mean very little of what I say." The interview segments are interspersed with four performances of Sex Pistols songs done by impersonators, one of which appears to earn an endorsement from Rotten in a passage that seems to have been patched in. There isn't much to be learned from Rotten and Vicious' remarks, but Sex Pistols fans may find them amusing. ~ William Ruhlmann
