BLUES ON BROADWAY was recorded in 1989, a mere week after Ruth Brown's triumphant comeback in the Broadway smash "Black and Blue" had netted her a Tony Award. The album features three songs from that show-"St. Louis Blues," the double entendre-laden "If I Can't Sell It," and "Tain't Nobody's Biz-ness"-and Brown sings the pants off each one. As usual, she's backed by a small but versatile Hammond organ-led combo.
The rest of BLUES ON BROADWAY is a mix of more familiar blues tunes ("Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out") and standards ("Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday"). The exception is "I Don't Breakdance," a new tune (written by Brown's guitarist Rodney Jones) in which Brown also informs us that she doesn't play Pac-Man very well.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
