Having weathered his fall from grace and subsequent trial by media early in his career, Boy George has managed to reinvent himself not only as a successful DJ, but also as a label boss and as front man for the reformed Culture Club. Now, as part of the establishment, and in his new capacity as rock 'n' roll survivor he releases THE UNRECOUPABLE ONE MAN BANDIT, a surprisingly coherent collection of home demos and finished tracks.
Originally conceived as a fan club-only release available solely over the Internet, the album embraces everything from Kiss-style heavy rock to a cover of David Bowie's "Suffragette City" and a protest song for gay service personnel ("GI Josephine"). The sleeve notes come in the form of a notebook telling the story behind each song with a frankness that is normally rare to find in the music business. If you have a soft spot for Culture Club/Boy George, this one's for you.
