Since Sublime didn't achieve breakthrough success until after Brad Nowell's untimely passing in May of 1996, it's safe to say that the majority of their fans missed out on catching the trio in concert during their brief career. The 1998 documentary, Stories Tales Lies & Exaggerations, contained quite a bit of live footage, but most of its songs weren't included in their entirety. This has been corrected once and for all with 2002's Live '94-'96, which contains over an hour's worth of live performances during this two year span (and unlike the aforementioned DVD release, is entirely interview free). Recorded in a variety of venues (several stops on the inaugural 1995 Warped Tour, clubs, outside record stores, etc.), the camera/picture quality varies from clip to clip, yet the sound stays pretty consistent throughout (which has been mixed in 5.1 surround sound). Featured are fun versions of such Sublime standards as "Date Rape," "Saw Red," "Greatest Hits," and "KRS-One," among others. Also included are several extra added bonus live clips, plus a 'karaoke' option. Clocking in at well over an hour in duration, Live '94-'96 is a fine yet raw representation of Sublime in concert. ~ Greg Prato
