Live at the Roxy Los Angeles 1981 is a reconfiguration of the live Al Stewart sides first issued as part of the double-live/studio LP Live Indian Summer. All of the expected songs are here from across Stewart's three preceding studio LPs, done in a smooth and elegant manner, which is a funny complement to throw at a live rock album, but in this case it fits -- apart from the fairly hard-rocking "If It Doesn't Come Naturally, Leave It," Stewart's set derives its greatest strength from his ability to expand the sound (and sometimes the meanings) of his music in concert, which he does with piano and synthesizer embellishments on "Nostradamus" (done here as part of a concert medley with "World Goes to Riyadh") and dramatic renditions of "Roads to Moscow," "On the Border." ~ Bruce Eder
