Veteran Baton Rouge blues man John Lisi has put out an excellent debut CD with Blues for Chloe. The musician has been a sideman on many a blues recording, and is a master of the guitar, harp, and dobro. Here, on his own record, he lays down some blistering blues on classics like "Caldonia" and "Little Red Rooster." He also turns in some enjoyable numbers that he himself wrote, such as the title cut, penned in honor of his baby, Chloe. His humorous "Big Ole Broke Down Buick" laments the woes of an overheated radiator in the Louisiana swamp country on a steamy afternoon. Lisi's rich, strong voice rings out with authority on the down-and-out lifestyle of the blues in "Broke-Ass Musician." The sound is rich and full too, as the artist is helped by his friends, who just happen to be some of the biggest names in Louisiana blues. These include Tabby Thomas, J. Monque'D, Henry Gray, Larry Garner, Tom Coeuver, and Big Jay McNeely. This is authentic blues from the region that invented the idiom. ~ Rose of Sharon Witmer
