Earth Crisis burst onto the scene in 1991 with a dream and a cause they wished to spread word about. Over the course of ten years they revolutionized the hardcore/metal community and brought insight to the active movement of those who supported the vegan way of life and animal rights. 1991-2001: Forever True captures Earth Crisis' decade of dedication and determination quite thoroughly, from the band's first show ever as young adults, on tour across the United States and around the world, to their final live testament at the 2001 Hellfest concert. Longtime fans have the benefit of seeing the often humorous side of a band who marched through the 1990s as one of the most militant straight-edge groups on the underground scene. Unfortunately, while the band's years on Victory Records have been detailed, much of the DVD panders to the Slither album and the group's hilarious excursion to Japan, lingering only briefly on the group's early years. Those interested in Earth Crisis' minor stint on Roadrunner Records will be disappointed at the complete lack of coverage here. Despite these letdowns, much here is intriguing and allows viewers to hear the opinions of the band straight from the members' mouths, including the horrific van accident that nearly ended the group's career. To hear the fans at Hellfest give thanks to the band is truly amazing, as the viewer is fully impacted on how inspiring this band has been throughout their ten-year legacy. There is much that is left unsaid as the DVD rolls credits, but this is worth seeing just for the first show's coverage and seeing how devoted Earth Crisis was to their cause from the very beginning. Bands should see this to find out what true conviction really is. ~ Jason D. Taylor
