Brazilian expat DJ Marky became a known name on British shores with his surprising hit remix of Jorge Ben & Toquinho's "LK (Carolina Carol Bela)," but his mixing skills are what will keep him in the minds and hearts of drum'n'bass fans. Movement: The Brazilian Job does the curious a favor by slotting his most popular appearance -- plus a few other remixes (including fellow Brazilian Fernanda Porto's "Sambassim") -- into an hour-long mix of completely up-to-date jungle. Marky ranges pretty far with his set, but focuses on the dark stuff (Bad Company, Origin Unknown, J Majik), along with a few detours into the housier side of drum'n'bass courtesy of a Total Science remix of London Elektricity's hook-up with soulful Chicagoan Robert Owens, and an Intalex remix of 4Hero's "Better Place." It's an excellent mix that doesn't shirk the better-known names, but comes up with a bounty of fresh ways to express what jungle means in 2002. ~ John Bush|
