& His All Stars. Personnel: Jimmy McPartland (cornet). Recording information: 1966. Although cornetist Jimmy McPartland was still in his musical prime, this Jazzology LP was his only session as a leader during 1961-71. On the loose Dixieland date, McPartland runs through his usual repertoire (a blues and eight warhorses including "Muskrat Ramble," "Royal Garden Blues," "Hello Dolly" and "The Saints") with a septet comprised of trombonist "Slide" Harris, clarinetist Tommy Gwaltney, pianist Marian McPartland, guitarist Steve Jordan, bassist Keter Betts and drummer Jake Hanna. Recorded at the 1966 Manassas Jazz Festival, the music is not flawless but it has plenty of the spirit and chancetaking of the best Dixieland. ~ Scott Yanow
