Compilation producers: Emilio Estefan, Jr., Jose Antonio Molina, Jon Secada. While Jon Secada started out performing strictly pop and R&B, he has become a smooth vocal stylist capable of singing a wide variety of material. THE GIFT, a collection of Christmas songs, is a case in point. In fact, the combination of the traditional program, the lush arrangements and orchestrations, and Secada's smooth, measured delivery brings to mind crooners on the order of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, and Andy Williams. Familiar carols like "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "O Holy Night" are given reverent readings by Secada, originals like "When I Miss You Most" provide variety, and his take on "The Christmas Song" is impressive, especially given the mileage that well-worn chestnut has received. The album closes out with two X-Mas en Espanol tunes, including "Noche de Paz," a Spanish-language version of Silent Night.
