Here's a sampler of 40 classic sides from the first five years of Sarah Vaughan's recording career: 1945-1950. Although this does not include her 1944 recording debut with Billy Eckstine & His Orchestra, it does function as a survey of the postwar confluence of bop and pop, as well as a friendly introduction to the artistry of Sarah Vaughan. This gifted vocalist is heard in the company of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Scott, George Treadwell, Teddy Wilson, Jimmy Jones, and John Kirby. Less intimate accompaniments are provided by larger ensembles under the direction of Georgie Auld, Hugo Winterhalter, Ted Dale, Joe Lipman, and Norman Leyden. This chronologically jumbled retrospective is a pleasant enough early Sarah Vaughan "best-of"; a more in-depth way to study this material is by using the Classics Chronological Series, beginning with the volume entitled 1944-1946. ~ arwulf arwulf
