The music varies from modern hard bop to world music with six of the performances having bass and/or piano, two featuring drums and just one (a matchup between trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff and altoist Lee Konitz) with two horns; unfortunately the recording dates are not given for any of this material. Such notables as pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, tenor-saxophonist Joe Henderson (who duets with bassist Wayne Darling), tenors John Tchicai and Jim Pepper, singer Karin Krog (performing a haunting version of "'Round Midnight" and Joe Lovano (on soprano duetting with drummer Ed Blackwell) are heard from on a program dominated by originals.
