In house music's endless cycle of recording, re-recording, sampling, remixing, and DJing, it is often difficult to determine who should get the credit for the piece of music before you. Fred Everything is obviously not concerned with answering this question, releasing a compilation of his remixes, two of which are different re-workings of "Astounded" by Bran Van 3000, which is actually a renamed cover version of the 1970 Curtis Mayfield classic "Move on Up." This might make Everything sound like the bottom rung on the musical ladder, were it not for the additional live instrumentation he added to this musical stew, as well as to several other of the house gems included. Soulstice, Random Factor, Atjazz, and Roy Davis, Jr. all get the Everything treatment, which consists of adding a heavier dose of dancefloor bottom to the soulful originals, while still maintaining the musicality of the records. Anybody can stick a drum machine under a song and call it a dance mix, but Everything shows the same sort of studio grace that has made other acts (most notably Kruder & Dorfmeister) famous for their remix work alone. And this compilation still isn't as good as his original recordings found on Everything Under the Sun. ~ Joshua Glazer
