Created especially for evening meditations, UNWIND features deeply resonating cellos and slowly building rhythms designed to relax and soothe as the mind releases the stress of the day. In the background of "Invocation," a simple theme is echoed by a soft, drifting vocal, the perfect soundtrack for an autumn sunset. "Refuge" moves into quieter territory with flute and violin performing a call and response, as guttural chants are occasionally heard in the stereophonic distance. "Dedication," the album's closing track, is appropriate for playing just before bed, as it leaves the listener in a serene state just on the edge of consciousness. UNWIND's composer, Silvia Nakkach, is an award-winning composer, instrumentalist and psychologist who studied with Ali Akbar Khan, the North Indian classical music legend. She is also the founder of Vox Mundi, a record label dedicated to the sacred vocal arts. All four tracks are about 15 minutes in length, making this a perfect first meditation album. If a listener has no experience at all with meditation, even sitting quietly for the length of one track will result in a noticeable calm.
