As a franchise player on Master P's No Limit Records team, Soulja Slim has made numerous cameo appearances on various other No Limit releases, and collaborated with Snoop Dogg, C-Murder, and Trinity (all of whom are signed to the label) on his debut album. Although incarceration due to parole violation delayed the release of his sophomore album, THE STREETS MADE ME, for more than a year, he apparently used the time to write lyrics. Whereas other No Limit solo albums--Slim's first included--play like compilations due to the amount of guest appearances, only seven of the 20 songs here have featured guests. Slim's subject matter stays in line with gangsta rap standards: narratives of vengeance, penitence, drugs, guns, urban rites-of-passage, and an occasional sexual reference. Musically, the production is consistent with the heavy kick, 32nd-note hi-hat patterns, and riot-inciting choruses that characterize southern bounce. For those tuning in to the sounds coming from Master P's No Limit imprint, Soulja Slim fits the mold perfectly and will not disappoint.
